Introduction to Tækniseigla
Start here if you are a complete beginner. No prior knowledge needed. We cover what data is, how to set up your computer so it amplifies you, how your phone and tablet work together, and the basic skills everything else rests on. This is open to everyone.
Tækniseigla is about using AI without losing your own judgment. But before we get there, the groundwork has to be in place. This introduction is for you if you have never done much on a computer, or if you just want to be sure the basics are solid. There is nothing silly about starting at the start. Basic computer skills are not a detail; they are the key to everything else.
What Is Data?
Data is simply a trace. Everything you write, photograph, record or click on becomes data: the text in your messages, the photo you took, the song you listened to, the walk you tracked. Data is not mysterious: it is just information a computer can store.
Three things are worth remembering:
- You create data all day long, whether you notice it or not.
- Data can be yours or someone else's. When you keep a file on your own device, you own it. When you put something into a free service, the company often decides what happens to it.
- AI learns from data and produces data. That is why it matters what you put in and what you trust.
In Tækniseigla you keep your own data in a Workbook: ordinary text files and images that you own. That is the first step toward digital independence.
Your Computer as an Amplifier
The motto is simple: the machine amplifies, the human hand decides. The computer is not there to think for you; it is there to enhance what you can already do. But it only does that if you know how to steer it. Three things get you most of the way:
- A browser. The program that opens the internet (for example Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge). Almost every AI tool runs in a browser, so you do not need to install anything complicated.
- Folders and files. Learn to save a file, give it a name, and find it again. A tidy computer is a computer that amplifies. A messy one slows you down.
- One home for your work. A single folder (for example, your Workbook) where everything you make collects in one place.
The Basics, Practiced as a Game
There is one skill everything else rests on: to copy and paste (cut and paste), and to find your way around the mouse, keyboard and touchscreen. It sounds small, but it is exactly what makes the difference between crawling and flying through your work.
We built a closed, safe practice environment for exactly this: Hands On, a digital practice station. There you practice at your own pace, with nothing you can break:
- Level 1, The invisible scissors: copy and paste from text, a phone number, an email, an Excel cell and a ChatGPT-like tool.
- Level 2, The hunt for icons: find the camera, heart, settings and other common symbols.
- Level 3, Sending an image: paste, drag and drop, and choose an image from your computer.
- Level 4, Click board: a speed drill for the mouse and touch.
- Level 5, The operating room: keeping your desktop, Downloads and trash clean.
- Level 6, The next stage: meeting the digital assistants that work for you.
Once copy and paste becomes second nature, you are ready for everything else.
Your Phone and Tablet Play Along
You do not need an expensive computer to take part. A phone or tablet is enough for a lot, and the best part is when your devices talk to each other:
- The phone for traces: take a photo or record a short voice note of what you did, and let it land in your Workbook.
- Connect it all: when you use the same account (for example, the same email) on your computer, phone and tablet, your files and photos sync between devices. What you start on the phone you can finish on the computer.
- Touch and mouse do the same thing: clicking with a mouse and tapping a screen are the same act. What you learn on one carries over to the other.
This Is Open to Everyone
Tækniseigla is free and requires no sign-in. You do not need to buy anything to start, and you set your own pace. It is fine to make mistakes; they are part of learning. It is never too late to begin, and no question is too simple.
Next Step
Once the groundwork is in place:
- Practice the basics in Hands On until they stick.
- Want to go deeper into working with AI step by step? See the beginner course AI Training for Beginners.
- Then continue with the other Foundations (Steps 1 and 2) and choose your first module in Tækniseigla.
Welcome. The machine amplifies, but you are the one who decides.
